When Coaches Become Campers: Jason Grubb at Power Monkey Fitness Camp
When someone like Jason Grubb shows up at Power Monkey Camp, it’s easy to assume he’s there to coach. After all, he’s a multi-time CrossFit Games champion, a coach himself, and a voice of authority in the masters fitness space.
But this time, he didn’t come to coach. He came to learn.
Jason joined us not as an expert, but as a student. Someone who wanted to refine his skills, sharpen his awareness, and maybe, just maybe, uncover something that could help him compete even better in the future.
That humility and openness is exactly what Camp is about.
Over the course of the week, we watched Jason fully immerse himself in every aspect of the experience. Not just the training, but the conversations. The meals. The slower, quieter moments where big breakthroughs tend to happen.
He asked questions. Took notes. Jumped into skill sessions alongside first-timers and competition hopefuls alike. He brought the same intensity and curiosity to his own development that we see him bring to competition and it was inspiring.
His recent reflection, “Unlocking Potential at Power Monkey Camp”, is more than just a recap. It’s a reminder that even the most experienced athletes have room to grow. That coming back to the fundamentals, with the right coaching, the right environment, and the right mindset, can be one of the most powerful things you do for your long-term development.
Having Jason at Camp wasn’t just exciting—it was meaningful.
Because it reinforced what we’ve always believed:
No one is ever “too advanced” to keep learning.
We’re grateful he trusted us with his time, his training, and his goals. And we’re excited to see how the lessons he took home show up in this competition season.
